The FRIENDS OF FLATROCK FOUNDATION is an RRCA affiliated, non-profit ultrarunning organization dedicated to the preservation of the Elk River Hiking Trail through the hosting of it's annual event; the FlatRock 50/25K. The sole mission of our foundation is to organize, sponsor, staff and support the FlatRock 50/25K, held annually every September on the last Saturday of the month. Our vision is to open a perpetual gateway for virgin and novice ultrarunners, continually challenge the veteran ultrarunners, all while maintaining Kansas' most rugged and beautiful trail. Annual foundation contribution is $20 per year (US funds) for individuals or families. Annual foundation registration and/or renewal entitles you to 20% off of your entry fee(s) to the FlatRock 50/25K as well as insuring timely and consistent updates of the FlatRock Internet Archives, which include, but are not limited to; race results, articles, pictures, keyword searchable database, testimonials, bulletin boards, mailing lists, etc. Please continue your support of our beloved "little gem" down here in southeast Kansas by becoming a "Friend of FlatRock" and registering with our foundation today.
"FlatRock is hands down my favorite race, ever. I wish I lived closer so I could run that course more often and see all of you that organize the race...the course seems to beat me every year. The first year I had blisters so bad, I couldn't run for weeks. For some stupid reason, I didn't go to FlatRock 2 or 3, but I have been back every year since. The "Year of the Women", I was actually leading the race at the turnaround, mainly because the 4 leaders got lost. But even then, I ran out of gas and was delegated to walking at the end."
